Contact-level vs thread-level linking

Teamopipe gives you two email linking modes because Gmail conversations do not always map neatly to CRM deals. Choosing the right one keeps your pipeline clean and prevents unrelated emails from appearing in the wrong deal.

Thread-level linking

Only the selected Gmail thread is linked to the deal. Replies in that thread stay connected. New emails from the same sender are not added automatically. Use this when the same person is involved in multiple separate deals.

Example: a freelancer works with one company on three projects. Thread-level linking keeps each project's emails in its own deal.

Contact-level linking

All emails from a contact's address are connected to the deal — past and future. Use this only when one contact equals one deal and you want everything from them visible automatically.

Example: a consultant with one proposal for one founder — every email is about the same opportunity.

Which to choose

If unsure, use thread-level. It is more precise and prevents accidental mixing. The most common mistake is leaving the toggle on contact-level when you only intended to link one thread — then every future email from that person appears in the deal.

How to change the link type later

Open the deal, find the Linked Contacts section in the detail panel, and change or remove the link type there. If labels persist in Gmail after unlinking, contact support with the affected email address.
