When you install Teamopipe, you grant it access to your Gmail account. This article explains exactly what that access is used for, what data Teamopipe stores, and what it never touches.
Why Gmail access is needed
Teamopipe’s core feature is linking email threads to deals. To do that, it needs to read which email you have open, identify the sender, and attach a deal label to the thread. Without Gmail access, none of this is possible — the extension would just be a standalone CRM with no connection to your inbox.
When you install the extension, Chrome shows a permissions prompt listing the access required. The key permissions are Gmail access and your email address. These are standard for any Gmail-native tool.
What Teamopipe uses Gmail access for
- Reading the email you have open — to identify the sender and subject line when you create a deal from an email
- Applying Gmail labels to email threads — the coloured stage labels you see in your inbox next to linked emails
- Matching incoming emails to linked deals — when contact-level linking is active, new emails from a contact’s address are automatically associated with their deal
- Sending campaigns — when you run an email campaign, Teamopipe sends emails through your connected Gmail mailbox on your behalf
What Teamopipe stores on its servers
- Deal data you create — deal names, stage, fields, comments, tasks, activity logs
- Contact information you add — names, email addresses, phone numbers, custom fields
- Organization data you create — company names, websites, custom fields
- Email thread metadata needed for linking — thread IDs and sender addresses, used to match emails to deals. This is metadata, not the content of the emails.
What Teamopipe does NOT store
Teamopipe does not store the content of your emails. The body of email messages is never sent to or stored on Teamopipe’s servers. Teamopipe reads email metadata (sender, thread ID, subject) to enable linking — but the actual email content stays in Gmail.
